Heavy hex-head structural bolts have longer shanks and thread lengths than standard hex bolts. Structural bolts hold together pieces and connections made of steel to steel. To tighten the hex heads, you can use either a ratchet or a spanner torque wrench. These strong steel bolts can have a galvanised, yellow zinc, or black oxide finish. Heavy hex bolts are used in high-temperature, high-strength industrial applications. Their heads are bigger and thicker than those of standard hex bolts. Hex bolts with forged heads are often used to make the heads of headed anchor bolts. All of them are made to be used with hex nuts for a tight fit.
