Tension Indicating Bolts are made by putting very accurate, long-lasting load monitoring sensors into high-quality bolts and studs. Premature wear, costly downtime, and catastrophic joint failure are all reduced by the precise assembly and continuous monitoring. Also, load-indicating fasteners work with standard tools for tightening and tensioning, so you don't need expensive ultrasonic, strain gauge, and torque measurement devices. Even people who aren't very skilled can now build complex bolted joints that are within +/-5 percent of the design specification and have uniform clamp stresses.

Because tension measurements are made, torque control errors are taken care of. This gives an assembly the best possible start before it is put to work. There are many different shapes and sizes of load-indicating fasteners. They can be made with standard ANSI materials or with non-standard materials. Each load-indicating fastener is calibrated and tested to its proof load to make sure that it works as designed and meets the tension needs of the application. Most of the time, load-monitoring cartridges can be added to the bolts of a customer.
